Younger kids don’t necessarily have smaller heads. We find that over 85% of kids take (L/XL). It’s always best to measure. Keep in mind how the player will wear their hair. Be sure to allow room for a pony tail.

HOW TO SIZE
1. Use a soft tape measure to determine the player's head circumference. Measure completely around the head, in the location of the forehead, above your eyebrows and below your hairline. A string can be used to measure the head as well; identify the distance, and then measure the string with a yard stick or retractable tape measure.
2. See below and choose (S/M) or (L/XL) based on the measurement along with your preference for a relaxed or more snug fit

  My 9-year old daughter started field hockey this year. At the beginner level it's really just a bunch of kids crowding around and looking down at the ball, so not unusual for kids to knock heads. I'm a pediatrician and a bit of a worry-wart in general, so probably more conscious than most about concussions and neurological development. There is a lot of concerning data, most notably that the risk of suicide in teenagers is significantly increased in kids who have had 2 concussions in the previous year. I was excited to find the Unequal products because they look just like a thick headband - I don't want my daughter to feel self-conscious about it. The Velcro makes it a lot more comfortable for her than the ones that have to stretch to fit, and will hopefully serve us for a long time as she (and her head) grow. All in all, very satisfied with the Halo. I consider it to be well worth the price to protect my kid's brain.

  after getting multiple concussions, I bought this for volleyball. it has worked so well- it's very comfortable and stays on well. I've even got hit a few times with it on and I havent felt anything.

  Wonderfully ingenious device. The Halo 1 offers more protection, the Halo 3 is a little more inconspicuous so kids might prefer it.
